Getting back my broadband soon...

I checked on the various options for broadband... Looks like AT&T can't supply cable modems here, since San Jose's cable system is an old, outdated system which has never been updated. I could have called to get my DSL turned back on, but the service type I had was seriously hardcore, and it would cost me over $100 a month for that level of service. I don't want some kind of crap residential service with 512K max speeds and no upload speed worth mentioning...

As a result, I'm getting Sprint, which is providing a wireless service. $39 a month, no install charge, up to 2 Mbps... And they are installing it on Wednesday, which kicks the crap out of a DSL installation anyday. It's not that DSL is really that hard to install... it's that the phone companies are really that opposed to people using DSL. They would have never provided DSL if they had the option, far better to charge through the nose for ISDN. Then the indie DSL companies came along and started pissing off the phone companies, who now have to provide DSL to meet customer expectations. Big crying shame for them... it's an awful day when monopolies actually have to provide *gasp!* service to their customers. Ah well... there's plenty of time in Bush's administration to make corporate greedheads no longer accountable to the people they serve, so you can't feel too sorry for them. Meanwhile, all the indies are dying out and being gobbled up.

It's enough to give up to Orwellian despair at times. "If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face -- forever"... except it's not quite that simple. In this world, whether you choose to acknowledge it or not, you will be stamped on by that damn boot. It's happening right now, all around you. It's the media that you're force fed... it's the inevitable forces of mediocrity and ignorance that you buy into... it's the global warming burger you get at your local drivethru... and when that boot starts stamping on your face, be sure to bite at it, spit on it, and cover that damn boot with your blood.
