Russia opposes new sanctions against Iran.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has announced that Russia -- which has veto power at the UN Security Council --  opposes further sanctions against Iran at this time, saying that since Iran has promised to clarify all outstanding IAEA concerns, "interference by way of new sanctions would mean undermining" IAEA efforts.

Seems like a pretty reasonable assumption, frankly. Iran is still many years away from being able to create a nuclear weapon -- assuming that is their motive -- and it is far more important for the IAEA to be there monitoring the Iranians and investigating their program, than for Iran to be put under tighter sanctions than they already are.

So, does this mean that Bush will dare to threaten another illegal war ...or will he finally decide to keep a civil tongue?
