Tropical storm Chris on fast track to hurricane strength.

Tropical Storm Chris is due east of Puerto Rico, on a course that tracks it close to Southern Florida. The experts are giving it a 60% chance of being hurricane strength within the next 48 hours, which would still put it a day east of the Bahamas. Jeff Masters at Weather Underground thinks it may become hurricane strength later today.

Chris is currently a small-sized storm, but conditions are good for its growth, and there is relatively little wind shear expected that could weaken it or push it off to the northeast. Expect the storm to hit southern Florida or slip into the Gulf of Mexico and build up even greater strength from their overheated waters.
