Bush poll numbers slip even lower.

Despite a recent speech on Iraq and some generally positive news following Hurricane Rita, Bush's poll numbers have slipped again, and are worse than ever.

CBS' poll puts Bush at a 37% job approval rating, an all-time low for the president, with only 26% of the public thinking the country is going in the right direction, while AP/IPSOS puts the approval rating at 39%, with 28% saying the country is going in the right direction.

Given that the water for DeLay, Libby, Rove, etc. hasn't even reached a full boil yet and we're rapidly the big 2000 mark in Iraq, I think it's safe to say that things will get worse over the next month. Republicans in the Senate -- fearing for their political livelihood -- are already in full revolt, and those in the House are presumably soon to follow.

Lame chickenhawk presidency. So much for Bush getting any of his pet legislation passed. Let's hope he keeps busy for the next few years on the Crawford ranch or riding his bike, because those things he *CAN* do without Senate approval are the scariest, really.
