Ukraine troops to quit Iraq.

As he promised during his campaign, Yushchenko, the  new leader of Ukraine, is withdrawing all 1650 of their troops from Iraq, in a phased withdrawl to begin this month.

In other news, all is not well with the Russians in Chechnya. The recent death of nine Russian soldiers in that country was a rare public admission of their losses, estimated to be nearly 12,000 since the second Chechen war began in 1999. The European Court of Human Rights recently found the Russians guilty of extrajudicial killings and torture in Chechnya, a move that is bound to increase international pressure towards a peace settlement in that war.
