1. To self-destruct, melt-down or implode under the weight of one's own arrogance.
2. To fail spectacularly, particularly in matters of warfare or diplomacy; to plunge into chaos.
3. Absolute, unmitigated disaster of national or international proportions and consequence; policy failure so utterly abject and miserable as to approach the realm of the epic.
"Although long considered to be a costly and murderous fiasco, the prisoner abuse scandal revealed the war in Iraq to be nothing short of a rumsfailure."

If World War II can bring us the word "quisling", then we can certainly adopt Rumsfail as a word -- all we need are enough people out there using it. So, be sure to use the word in conversations with your friends and co-workers. Any soldiers out there having a hard time getting the supplies you need, better armor on your Hum-V's, or even better body armor yourself? Getting shot at by unemployed Iraqis while highly-paid contractors are sitting around, twiddling their thumbs, unable to get their job done in a timely manner due to security problems? Just chalk it up as another Rumsfailure!
'Cause every war deserves its own word.
