Debunking the "stupid voter" myth...

I just read this... yikes.

I was shocked when I found out that punch ballot voting counters failed to count, on average, 5% of the votes. I was appalled, however, when I read that of the precincts in Florida that used the Data-Punch voting machine, the uncounted votes escalated to around 10% of all ballots cast!

How could this not be a known issue? What if the voting machine was computerized? Would we tolerate a 10% failure rate because of server problems? I can believe that some old people might have a problem clearly punching a ballot... but 10%? The same ratios occurred with this painfully inexact machine in other areas where the voters were younger, too.

It has been speculated that the reason why these particular machines failed to clearly punch the ballots is that some of these machines may have been clogged with chads, making it hard, if not impossible, for the machines to cleanly punch the ballot. It would be ironic if a record voter turnout from what can only be called responsible citizens executing their right to vote would be the reason why George Bush won the election.

Oh... and as for stupid voters, if the voters of Palm Beach County were so dumb, can you imagine what the people were like who didn't vote?!
