I have had good and bad Vietnamese sandwiches before, but they all pale beside the wonder which is Pho Quyen's chicken sandwich.
For $1.95, they deliver to your table a basket containing about a 10" long french baguette, sliced down the middle and filled with chicken, lightly pickled daikon radish, carrots, cillantro, and other veggie goodness layered over and amongst chicken and a fresh -- obviously homemade -- mayonaise sauce, which obviously has something incredible and zesty added to it..
You pick up the whole thing and take the first bite, and immediately are stunned, because the roll is incredible... substantial... warmed inside as if it were freshly baked... providing a wonderful, comforting contrast to the fresh, crunchy, slightly sweet and vinegary highlights of the veggies, and the oh-so-good chicken and mayo sauce.
Wow. Just wow. There's no way that Subway, Togo's, Blimpies, Quiznos, or any of their ilk could ever compare. I may never want to make lunch again, and at these prices, I might not have to.
