End of the beginning, or beginning of the end?

Palm Beach county in Florida finished a manual count of 1% of all ballots. Based on this 1% count, they found 19 additional Gore votes in comparison to Bush votes, which means that they could have around 1,900 additional Gore votes if they hand count the entire county... so that is exactly what they will do, unless stopped by the Federal courts.

Given that the current Associated Press count indicates that Gore is behind by only about 300 votes statewide, this is big news. The Gore campaign is in the process of getting recounts in about 3 other counties that favor their man, so we could be looking at a shift in the election of around 5,000 votes. Under the circumstances that I mentioned previously, I don't think it's all that likely that Bush will be the next President of the United States.

It looks like we are nearing the real endgame of how this election is going to play out... sure, it may drag on for weeks, but I think the writing is on the wall. Then again, if there is anything we all should know by now, never try to predict these things before all the votes are in.... ;)
