So, right about now, you're probably saying what I would have been saying a few months ago... "Dennis who?!" Let me tell you though... he's the real thing. Ralph Nader likes him and urged him to run. Michael Moore wrote enthusiastically about the possibility of him running too... but who is Kucinich and why should people support him?
He became the mayor of Cleveland in 1977 at the age of 31 -- the youngest person ever elected mayor of a major US city. During his administration, he fought powerful business interests to save the city's power system from privatization. As a result, the people of Cleveland now enjoy significantly lower electricity rates than other cities. (Kucinich recently travelled to San Francisco to support Proposition D, which unfortunately failed after PG&E spent a record $2.7 million on the local ballot initiative, outspending supporters 50 to 1.)
Kucinich is a four-term member of the House of Representatives and leader of the House Progressive Caucus. His policies are strongly in favor of peace, public service, human rights, workers rights, and the environment. He has also been one of the most vocal opponents of the war. He decided to get into the race after a grassroots effort of over ten thousand people urged him to run. ( MSNBC says, "The first presidential candidate to be drafted, in large part, by an Internet website!")
Don't just take my word, however. Find out more about him... The Kucinich for President website is at http://www.kucinich.net !
