Former US Attorney General Ramsey Clark has drafted formal articles of impeachment for President Bush, Vice President Cheney, Defense Sec. Rumsfeld, and Attorney General Ashcroft, accusing the current administration of some very serious charges...
Violating the rights of other nations, torture, executions, kidnapping, secret detentions, bribery, violating the constitution, claiming powers not granted in the constitution, violating numerous international treaties and laws... all valid charges.
I, for one, am going to cast my vote to impeach. It might not start the impeachment process -- yet -- but it might actually make a difference for reports to trickle in saying that a million people support formal impeachment.
What we are really fighting for is our nation's soul. If we allow the US to use "any means necessary" to resolve international disputes and allow our executives to knowingly violate and disregard treaties, we lose our honor, trust, and respectability as a nation. This country was founded upon a clearly voiced code of conduct called the Constitution, but somehow, rather than improving upon our nation's ideals and advancing the cause of humanity, we have allowed the ideas and ideals that we stand for to be twisted and distorted. What is the point of educating our children about the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, only to have them grow up to learn that, thanks to corrupt laws and leaders, both documents are moot and, for all intensive purposes, no longer mean what they say any more.
It's time for the people to stand up for the Constitution. It's time to stand up for the Bill of Rights. It's time they stood up for the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and for all the ideals that express the best of humanity. The only way we can stand up for these high ideals, however, is to make sure our leaders behave in a manner consistant with such high and honorable ideals. That's why I am going to support the formal impeachment of the president and his administration -- I hope you will too.
