A tale of two stories.

This post is about two stories -- one that all Americans should know about which is getting next to no coverage in the U.S., and one of little importance that every U.S. paper will cover and every rightwing pundit will get indignant about.

First, the important yet ignored story:
Iraq's director of intelligence says that there are over 200,000 insurgents in Iraq.. Ouch. This is a huge number. The Pentagon estimated only 5,000 insurgents earlier this year, so if this is true, then it's highly unlikely that this war is ever going to stop so long as Iraq is occupied. It also indicates just how much trouble the Iraqi government could be in should U.S. troops pull out. In other words, we're screwed.

And next, the far less important but overreported story:
The media is ablaze about Palestinian leader Abbas calling Israel a "Zionist enemy" after an Israeli tank killed seven Palestinian youths.

Oh, the outrage... calling Israelis "Zionist enemies"!

This just in... Dog, foaming at the mouth, bites man. Man cries "Rabid dog!" Spokesmen for the dog call for internatinal outrage over emotionally harmful slur, amidst charges of anticaninism!
