Re-up or go to Iraq... again.

Two soldiers from the Third Brigade Combat Team at Fort Carson have leaked an ultimatum given to the 4,000 soldiers of their unit during a series of assemblies last Thursday -- re-enlist for three years, or be transfered to units going to Iraq.

A 23-year-old sergeant who spoke on the condition of anonymity said: "They're screwing with a lot of soldiers' lives right now. They said that if we didn't re-enlist, we would be sent to the 3rd ACR (Armored Cavalry Regiment), which is leaving for Iraq, or 'We will send you to another unit that's going to Iraq."'

A 24-year-old sergeant said he had already signed a paper saying he would not re-enlist or extend his service.

"They said, 'You're already going to Iraq,' and they ripped up my paper," said the soldier, who also requested that his name not be used.

To add insult to injury, these soldiers already served in Iraq recently, returning home after over 14 months. Post-deployment interviews with many of these soldiers and their families have revealed "a wave of serious mental health problems."

And now, these soldiers are being threatened to sign even more years of their life away, or go back...
