More reasons to stay alive - Summer 2005.

Because not only is that when the last Star Wars movie going to come out, that is also when Indiana Jones 4 is coming to the theatres. More details were released in an interview with Spielberg in Cinescape Magazine.

So, will it be something special, or will it just show that movies have come a long way and that Indy looks like an oldie? Either way, it will be a summer that signals an end to eras, and maybe a defacto end to the careers of Spielberg and Lucas.

Hurrah. The court says you can't be trusted!

The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled last Tuesday that Web loggers, website operators and e-mail list editors can't be held responsible for libel for information they republish, extending crucial First Amendment protections to do-it-yourself online publishers.

The ruling effectively differentiates individuals from the conventional news media, which can be sued relatively easily for libel, in that there is an assumption that the media checks their facts.

This, of course, does not mean that I'm not right, or that mainstream sources of news are somehow more right than I am. It just means I'm off the hook. I can say whatever I want to say, so long as I link to someone else who can be blamed for it. ;->

*addendum* - I'm lifting this cartoon from Spoonbender's post in Reverse Cowgirl's weblog, as it seems kind of an appropriate one to sum up the weblogging phenomena.

Over 250 US/coalition troops, 10,000+ Iraqis killed in Iraq? Blame God.

A few days ago, I noticed this odd story in the Moscow Times, where Ha'aretz supposedly had a transcript of George Bush claiming that God told him to attack Afghanistan and Iraq. I thought it was the kind of "news of the weird" that occasionally surfaces in the Russian media, so I did a search over at Ha'aretz that came up empty... so I ignored the story and didn't mention it in my journal.

But apparently Ha'aretz now confirms the story. Namely, that Dubya said the following to Mohammad Abbas, the President of Palestine:

"God told me to strike at al-Qaida and I struck them, and then He instructed me to strike at Saddam, which I did, and now I am determined to solve the problem in the Middle East. If you help me, I will act, and if not, the elections will come and I will have to focus on them."

So, sounds like Bush is either
A> A liar and a blasphemer who mocks and manipulates people's religious beliefs for his own purposes.
B> a religious fundamentalist nutcase with serious psychological problems and delusions of grandeur.
C> Both.

God is telling me to vote for someone else.
