San Francisco shut down today...

Downtown San Francisco was completely snarled today, effectively shut down to street traffic. Up to a thousand arrests. Protesters are being ziptied, loaded into muni busses, taken up to around Pier 27, processed, and apparently released.

Several thousand protesters are marching on the Bay Bridge as we speak. According to a call-in from a cell-phone, things have just started getting "out of control"... police don't know what to do to stop the protesters. 3-4 onramps have been taken over by protesters.

You can read the updates at http://sf.indymedia.org or listen live via a pirate radio station that has been set up -- "Enemy Combatant Radio" is on the air, broadcasting over the web and across San Francisco at 93.7 FM.

second helicopter crash of the day...

12 US, 4 British soldiers onboard. ABC news announced that there were no survivors. This raises the US casualties of operation Enduring Freedom to 81.

**Note: Yahoo appear to have gotten the numbers wrong. BBC is reporting eight British troops, four Americans onboard the 'copter. This would change the number to 73 US casualties of Enduring Freedom, with several hundred more allied forces as part of the cost of the "war on terror". This is not good news for Tony Blair... **
