I always wanted a good excuse to write those words.
I love rainy, overcast nights in the Bay Area... not too cold, lightly breezy, dark, looming clouds, gentle showers.
A good evening for sipping a relaxing drink...
I am having a drink I created with no name as yet.
Ribina, diluted with water
1 parts vodka
2 parts dark rum
Mix to taste. Serve over ice or chilled.
I prefer drinking it outside on the front porch, at the table, under the umbrella... The patter of the rain, my windchimes swaying in the breeze. Staring out over the trees, the neighborhood, the wet pavement. Very relaxing.
It's one of the few times when I feel that indulging myself with a cigarrette is a good idea. I need to set up some proper outdoor speakers for the porch some day, because the rain compels music. Night holds sway...
Some of my favorite songs to listen to in the rain:
Tones on Tail - "Burning Skies"
"Hot and cold ideas were running onto your eyes -- your sinking grey eyes..."
Eurythmics - "This City Never Sleeps"
"You can hear the sound of the underground trains. You know it feels like distant thunder..."
Robyn Hitchcock - "Raymond Chandler Evening"
"There's a body on the railings that I can't identify. And I'd like to reassure you, but I'm not that kind of guy..."
