If someone called me an "apologist" and "mouthpiece" for the Iraqis, I'd call them a liar to their face too, parlimentary protocol or not.
What is it with Tony
I'm not sure exactly when, but somehow, we bought Britain. "This is the 51st State -- of the U.S.A."
Guess I should move into Berkeley Castle. I liked visiting that place... it has history. Incidentally, George Berkeley, The Bishop of Cloyne, left his goods and library to go to the first university set up on the west coast of America.
His name was George Berkeley... pronounced bar-clay. B-E-R-K-E-L-E-Y. bar-clay. We don't live in San Joe-zee or San Francis-coe, do we?! Very well then. Curtail your sloppy Americanisms, pronounce the name of the college and city of Berkeley the right way, and show the man some respect!
Just turned on CSPAN, out of curiosity. All I can say is that the Republicans are very lucky that people don't watch it. The Senate has now twice unanimously (100-0) passed a resolution to extend unemployment benefits by thirteen weeks, as is standard policy in all prior recessions. This month, over 1.3 million Americans have had their unemployment benefits lapse - more than any other time in US history. Well, the Republicans do not want to vote on this right now... instead, they are debating extending the hunting season for Mourning Doves.
The debate is bouncing back and forth, roughly going as such:
"If you want to know about unemployment, come to Houston. Everyone from Enron is laid off! Our people are hurting!"
"...and Mourning Dove hunting, though not common in my state, is an honored tradition. Mourning dove hunting enriches the local economy and provides valuble food."
"It is ludicrous and an affront to the people of our country that we are discussing Mourning Doves today! How many 4 ounce mourning doves will it take to feed a family of five evicted from their home because they can't pay their rent?"
The Republican House wants to attach legislation to the extension... a poison pill that would die in the Senate. Coldhearted bastards. This is exactly what people hate about politics. The people of this country should rise up and unemploy them.
Damn. Sounds like the doves won... or lost as the case may be. Typical.
