Drunken US soldiers torment an endangered bengal tiger in the Baghdad Zoo, then shoot it when it attacks US serviceman.

Great job guys. You just gave a generation of Arabic kids a bedtime story that should help them along towards an exciting career in international terrorism. Someone should find out where these soldiers live, and force their community's local zoos to permanently lose one of their most beloved animals, to be sent straight to Baghdad.

The only issue I take with your rendition of this story is that (after reading the article *twice*, to be sure!) there was no actual 'tormenting'involved, prior to the mauling or shooting. The soldier apparently was merely trying to feed it (against the advice of others, but innocent enough, really!). Drunken state or not, there is a BIG difference between the two actions.

I do agree with the fact that the actions taken against the tiger when it (quite understandably) mauled the soldier's arm were WAY uncalled for. The tiger was simply going on instinct, and didn't know any better. The soldiers, however, did.

I also agree with your suggestion that we should give them another tiger, when things have calmed down (no tiger filet or rug, thank you!) It certainly won't replace what was lost, as the tiger was born and lovingly raised there.

Poor kitty :-(

I was wondering how long it would take M to post this story when I first saw it. ;)

Yah - seems like cluelessness, not malice, was the soldier's motivations; I also agree that killing the tiger for acting like a tiger is absurd. A replacement tiger (perhaps we can call up Sigfriend and Roy?) and a sincere apology would go a long way.

'Torment' was probably a bit strong, but drunken partying next to the private space of a wild animal followed by an intrusion into its cage is a big intrusion.

I've been "tormented" by drunken soldiers who probably thought they were being friendly. I remember wishing I could sprout tiger teeth and claws too.

Frigging idiots. They should all kiss my Royal Bengal Butt.
