First US marine killed in action in Iraq -- the rest died as a result of accidents.
That brings the number up to 74.
Meanwhile, in the "unmitigated gall" department, Richard Perle says Thank God for the death of the U.N.
Is it just me, or is that what most people in this world would say if Richard Perle died?
( "I'm not dead..." says the U.N. )
Why do we let our leaders say anything overseas? Everytime a Bush cabinet member expresses their views outside this country, several million more people think Americans are dangerous, tyrannical psychopaths... The only person who could have said anything more insulting to free, democratic nations would have been Rumsfeld, who creates at least three major diplomatic incidents everywhere he goes.
"(The UN's) abject failure gave us only anarchy. The world needs order..."
Mmmm... tastes like Fascism, but it's kosher!
"Fascism: 1. A philosophy or system of government that advocates or exercises a dictatorship of the extreme right, typically through the merging of state and business leadership, together with an ideology of belligerent nationalism." - The American Heritage Dictionary
So, we need order, eh? (said in a dalek accent...) Whose order?
"A dictatorship would be a lot easier." - G.W. Bush, Governing Magazine, 7/98.
"If this were a dictatorship, it would be a heck of a lot easier, just so long as I'm the dictator." - G.W. Bush, CNN.com, December 18, 2000
"A dictatorship would be a heck of a lot easier, there's no question about it." - G.W. Bush, Business Week, July 30, 2001
That joke isn't funny anymore...

...the merging of state and business leadership...
And of course, as I'm sure you are aware.. they also bought blogger.com - and to think, they are making money off of 15,000 linux boxes.
At anyrate, since you're the business guy, I was wondering if you could put the word out to the kick ass LJ people that http://anyservicemember.org/ is having load problems - I wanted to let them know that despite all the protest going on, there are still people that fully support our troops.
Thanks

I think I will skip the facist regime....
Pearl is one of the Hawks that wants to turn us into a classic Roman style military empire. Thank you not. Now that I know the history of the controling members of the Republican think tank I am absolutely sure that I did not vote for the wrong people during the last couple of elections.Sneering at the UN or US allies is exactly what cannot happen during or after the war. Respect and honor will be the only currency that matter is less than a hundred years time, and the way it is going the US will have none of it.
Military supremecy will be a concept whose time has come and gone. Something will happen in a garage somewhere in another country and thirty years later the US will be asking to join the UN, much less have veto power over anything. (In fact, veto power will be a thing of the past.)

perle of wisdom? i think not!
once again, richard perle succeeds in turning my stomach.his arguments rely on the reader/listener being ignorant of the facts. the very notion that this conflict has been entered into 'as a last resort' would be laughable, were it not so damn serious.
as for the UN, i fear for its future, but wouldn't dream of writing its obituary just yet. there is much to be done on the UNSC to hold america and britain to account, and then there's always the possibility of invoking res 377, which ironically, could be done to restore peace in the region by getting the4 US/UK out. granted, that is a long shot. but if the resolution is invoked and passed, bush and his cronies will have to decide once and for all if america will abide by international law, or is a pariah state.

Without qualification this is misleading, no?

Bah!
Why do we let our leaders say anything overseas? Everytime a Bush cabinet member expresses their views outside this country, several million more people think Americans are dangerous, tyrannical psychopaths...Which is why I keep saying that they should take it to a cow pasture, and settle it amongst themselves ... maybe make it a PPV event ;-)
